El Cajon CA : . . . Fourteen artists and photographers have accepted the invitation to show their art at the 3rd El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibit at the St. Clair Gallery located in the East Count Business Center in El Cajon. The show opened April 22, 2008 and will run for 40 days, closing on May 30, 2008.
An artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, May 18th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm in the St Clair Gallery located on the second floor of the East County Business Center at 270 East Douglas Avenue in El Cajon. The fourteen participating artists will host the reception and cordially invite the public to attend and enjoy the art, the refreshments, and the ambiance of the gallery. The receptions for the El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibits have been “blowout” affairs attracting close to 300 guests and creating an elbow to elbow gathering of art enthusiasts. The artists in the 3rd Invitational are determined to continue that tradition at the reception on May 18th and encourage all to attend and enjoy the diversity of not only the fine art presented but the artists who created it. The reception is free and open to the public.
Featured in this exhibit is a local artist with autism, Mark Rimland, whose work has appeared in many art shows locally and around the country. Mark
has even made TV appearances related to his artwork, and in 1998 he illustrated a children’s book, The Secret Night World of Cats, which won a Parenting Award when it was released. Mark is a student at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, an East County organization that provides education services for adults with devel

opmental disabilities.
San Diego County Fair Best of Show Winner, Blake Shaw, is exhibiting photographic images captured at rodeos in Lakeside, Poway and Tecate, Mexico, which capitalize on slow shutter speeds to emphasize the raw power of rodeo action, fusing together the motion of man and animal in this classic duel.
Well known San Diego artist and art instructor Linda Doll departs from her traditional watercolor medium by exhibiting six digital art paintings. The presence of her experienced hand can be seen in these images that add greatly to the diversity of the 3rd El Cajon Invitational Exhibit which offers works in oil, watercolor, mixed media, acrylic, soft pastels, photography, digital art and wall sculpture.
Another local artist, Melva Riley, noted for her realistic oil paintings of horses, is exhibiting two paintings featuring horses and four landscapes done in a representational style. “Her work is fresh, with brightly balanced color schemes,” says gallery director Howard Bagley. “Melva is showing us two completely different styles of painting here. Her animals are quite realistic, detailed, accurate renditions, while her landscapes employ a playful simplicity of line, form and color that expose a simple truth about nature.”
