2nd El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibit Opens . . .
14 Artists Show Diversity . . . Accomplishment

El Cajon CA : . . . Fourteen artists and photographers have accepted the invitation to show their art at the 2nd El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibit in the St Clair Gallery located in the East Count Business Center in El Cajon. The show opened March 5, 2008 and will run for 45 days, closing on April 18th. The artists will host a reception at the gallery on March 30, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The public is invited and most of the artwork is for sale.

“This is an Olympic class art event with some of East County’s finest artists and photographers contributing 88 pieces of artwork for the exhibit,” says Gallery Director, Howard Bagley. “One of the artists, Linda Doll, is listed in nine Who’s Who publications, including Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in American Women; another, Dan McGeorge, produced stories and photos for the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles newspaper and the Pacific Theater’s Stars and Stripes magazine; still another, Dr. Jenny Ferrone, possesses not only a B.A. in Art, but a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a M.A. in Education and a Doctorate in Education (EdD). These artists are truly Olympians, showing how success breeds success by creating exceptional Fine Art in additional to their many other accomplishments.”

Accomplishment can be measured in many ways . . . yet another of the group of exhibiting artists was homeless on the streets of El Cajon a few years ago but has found a way to bring her life together through art. Jan Hulet’s work is not only showing at the St. Clair Gallery here in El Cajon, but also is currently included in a special showing of art on the campus of Princeton University. In 2007 Jan’s “Desert Bats”, which is included in the St. Clair Gallery exhibit, was juried into the 5th Annual ArtFirst! Show at Princeton University presented by the Auxiliary of the University Medical Center. Jan is a student at St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, an East County organization that provides education services for adults with developmental disabilities.

The group of artists’ work has appeared in more than a dozen publications, both books and periodicals, including three covers. Many of the artists have won awards in national juried art shows. Phebe Burnham, a well known East County artist is, “Busy coordinating her active exhibition schedule, regularly showing in places such as the AKC Museum of the Dog in Saint Louis, the Sacramento Gallery of Fine Art and the Steamboat Springs Summer Arts Festival in Colorado,” as stated by Douglas Zullo in a four page spread he wrote for Canine Image Magazine.

An artist’s reception will be held on March 30th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm in the St Clair Gallery located on the second floor of the East County Business Center at 270 East Douglas Avenue in El Cajon. The fourteen participating artists will host the reception and cordially invites the public to attend and enjoy the art, the refreshments, and the ambiance of the gallery. The reception for the 1st El Cajon Invitational Art Exhibit (ECI) was a blowout affair attracting almost 300 guests and creating an elbow to elbow gathering that resulted in the sale of six of the eight pieces sold during the exhibit. The artists in the 2nd ECI are determined to provide even more splash at the reception on the 30th and encourage all to attend and enjoy the diversity of not only the fine art presented but the artists who created it.

The St Clair Gallery is open 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and until 4:30 pm on Friday. For additional information please contact Stevie Norman at the East County Business Center, (619) 401-4000, or Gallery Director Howard Bagley (619) 448-2816.
